History
The Kankakee Valley Model Flyers was founded in 1971 and chartered by The Academy of Model Aeronautics as club #257, and incorporated with the State of Illinois in 2005 as a non-profit corporation. The Kankakee Valley Park District has supported the club as a sponsored group with a beautiful flying field of approximately 6 acres since 1971. The park district has also provided mowing and a meeting place for the club. Two of the original founding members are still active in the club. The club began with outdoor radio control airplanes, including sailplanes, and has grown to include helicopters, drones, etc. Activities include both indoor and outdoor flying of electric, glow, and gas models of all sizes and shapes. Average membership has been around 40 members. Traditionally the club holds an annual picnic in August and a banquet in February.
